Welcome to the Home of the Vikings at Sierra Vista Elementary! My name is Jennifer Thao, and I am excited and blessed to be the principal of Sierra Vista. I have been in Clovis Unified School District (CUSD) for a very long time where I started my K-12 educational journey as a student and then graduated in our district. I started teaching Preschool to 6th grade, as well as ELA intervention in 7-8th grade in CUSD. In the last 14 years, I've had the opportunity to serve in the role of school leadership and administration, including working as a Learning Director at Clovis High School. Like many of you, I am also a proud parent of CUSD. It has been a great journey for me to get to work alongside great educators who believe in our students of this district, especially at Sierra Vista Elementary and the Clovis Area.
At Sierra Vista, it is important to us that we provide the best learning opportunities to prepare each student for academic and personal success. The staff at Sierra Vista aims toward commitments that will provide a safe, supportive, challenging, and meaningful learning environment for our students. Student success occurs when the school, students, parents/guardians, and the community are all actively collaborating to support students. We hope that we can provide the best opportunities for our Sierra Vista families and the community to be educated in what we do best for our students.
At Sierra Vista, we believe that “Vikings Are STRONGER TOGETHER”! Vikings are a group of warriors who believe in important core values including family, teamwork, courage, truth, loyalty, discipline, hospitality, independence, and diligence. Sierra Vista Vikings believe in achievements and will commit to lead and be successful together. Our Viking's motto is, "Wherever you go, whatever you do... we BELIEVE in you!"
Our Vision: Inspire students to rise above challenges to increase student achievement.
Our Mission: Sierra Vista Elementary will provide, cultivate, and maintain a positive, safe learning environment and a culture of opportunities with high standards to better prepare each student for academic and personal success.
We believe in these core values:
- A fair break for every kid
- It’s people, not programs that make the difference
- Education revolves around teamwork and trust
- High expectations for staff and students
- To develop winners, surround our kids with winners
Some of Sierra Vista’s achievements throughout its history to present are:
- CSU Fresno Bonner Center for Character Education Award
- ERP Honor Roll (CBEE Honor Roll)
- Digital Citizenship recognized school
- Golden Bell Award Winning School
- CLASSI Award in Clovis Unified
We look forward to an exciting and memorable school year as we strive and challenge ourselves to be excellent and be our very best in mind, body, and spirit. We hope that our website and our school will continue to provide you and your students with resources and information that will support and connect you to Sierra Vista Elementary. If there are any questions or needs, please do not hesitate to contact your student’s teacher or the school’s office at any time. I look forward to meeting you, your students, and your family.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Thao
