What is Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC)?
Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC) draws members from our school community to represent our school at district level climate assessment/problem-solving meetings. The primary purpose of the Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC), originally formed in 1988 as the Intercultural Advisory Council, is to assist in the formation and review of policies that assure non-discriminatory practices in all operational areas of the Clovis Unified School District. Its further mission is to assist in improving the cultural environment of the District.

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION

Understanding Cultural Differences

Sierra Vista Elementary strives to highlight it's diversity. We encourage inclusion of all students and staff across our campus through a variety of learning and culture building opportunities.

Passport Night at Sierra Vista

  • Each of our classrooms chose a country to study, learning about its unique traditions, clothing, food, and celebrations.  The classroom became a Viking tourist destination to learn about 22 other cultures.  Some of the activities included, but were not limited to, oral or written reports, learning phrases of the specific language spoken in the country, learning a dance, listening and sharing music, and creating flags representing the countries.
  • Each student was given a passport.  The passports were stamped as they entered each country.
  • Clovis High School’s Folkloric, Salsa, Hip Hop Stomp, and Hmong dance groups participated in a celebration of dance sharing beautiful, traditional dance moves and stories through movement.

Family Math Night / Focus Group Achievement

Sierra Vista offers a Family Math Night providing opportunities for our parents to learn about common core math standards and the different ways they can be applied.  These community events not only provide parents with math activities, but also share how math is being taught in the classroom.  In addition, this allows parents to receive tangible resources to help work with their students at home.
